Official opening of the new residential complex in the Koestraat
At the 23rd of August 2007 the new residential complex for RA-students and clients of Emergis was opened.
The director of Woongoed Middelburg Eric de Ceuster held the following speech during this ceremony:
A very warm welcome to you all on behalf of Emergis, Rasa and Woongoed Middelburg. I am Eric de Ceuster, director of Woongoed Middelburg, the organisation that transformed this former office into a residential complex for RA-students and clients of Emergis.
Today I am addressing the RA-students in particular, some of whom have already moved into the building.
For most of you, this will be the first time you are living on your own, although it is perhaps not quite the right expression. Here you will be living on your own among many other people. You could better call it living apart together. Living apart together on 3 levels. Let me explain.
In the first place you will be living here as individual students in a community of students. I am convinced that group cohesion and the strength and support of a group are important factors in the individual development of its members. The campus of RA and Woongoed offer you the space for both individual and collective growth.
In the second place two groups will be ‘living apart together’ in this building: RA-students and clients of Emergis, a mental health care centre. I don’t doubt for an instant that mutual respect between the two groups will only grow. Both groups are staying here on a temporary basis and both groups wish to leave this building at some point in the future richer in experience and wiser than when they arrived.
In the third and last place, the RA students will be living among the other residents of Middelburg in this special city. It is a lively relationship, enhanced by the many activities organised by RA and Rasa. Sometimes this hustle and bustle is a drawback and the nuisance can reach the limits of tolerance. I am proud to say that Rasa and Woongoed, after much consultation, have come to fully satisfactory agreements on this point.
Living apart together on 3 levels. I hope you will all grow as individuals, with each other, with your neighbours and with the city, and wish you the best of luck!
Abseiling for students of the Roosevelt Academy
All students had the opportunity to abseil from the building legally for once!
Two students came down the building and reveiled the slogan of the opening ceremony: Room for growth!

AT THE MOMENT WE ARE VERY BUSY WITH CONNECTING ALL THE CAMPUS SITES ON A GLASSFIBER-INTERNETCONNECTION. WHEN THIS IS FINISHED THE SERVICE CHARGES FOR INTERNET WILL INCREASE. THIS WILL BE PROBABLY OPERATIONAL IN SEPTEBEMBER / OCTOBER 2008.
